Integrity is undergoing some major surgery this week and next. The boat is 27 years old and one of the major components for sailboat safety with regards to the rigging and mast are the chainplates. These are strong attachment points mounted to the hull. Many boats have these on the outside and are often easy to inspect and work on. The IP however the chainplated are embedded into the hull inside the cabin. This makes them crazy strong, but also makes them difficult to get at for inspection. After 27 years on the salt water its no supprise that they are corroded and needed to be replaced. I opted to have this done right away along with a few other upgrades before sailing off into some open ocean. This was definetly a “better safe than sorry” investment.
While pulling apart the boat and gettings ready for the chainplate repair one of the items that comes out is the hot water heater. This is what the water looked like coming out of that… yup. Gotta replace that as well. Thats not going to get pumped through the plumming and make a worse mess. Hopefully the water tanks dont look like as well. Ill have a lot of digging around on the boat once I finally get it out of this refit and upgrade process. Im eager to get onboard and see what it needs and to make my way down to the Keys!
